Claytan China is established to introduce Silverdale brands to one of the largest markets in the world.

2014

Claytan Philippine is established to introduce our purity, durability and trust to the largest market in South East Asia.

2013

We acquire Silverdale (a bathroom manufacturer in the UK), preserving an iconic brand and manufacturing facility, and adding a greater product portfolio/offering to our market.

2012

We partner with Gentec in the Middle East to meet the needs of the commercial market.

2010

Claytan Dubai is established to penetrate the Middle East market.

2009

We start an office in Jakarta, Indonesia.

2007

We take over the distribution of Caroma brand in the international market and start distributing to the Pacific Islands and South East Asia. The same year, we become the pioneer in Malaysia and the first in ASEAN countries to produce fine fireclay sinks and wash basins.

2004

OCSB starts manufacturing tableware under OEM arrangement for Spode UK, a leading ceramics manufacturer.

2003

An international marketing office is set-up in the UK.

2002

A dedicated R&D Center is built to upgrade research, development and design of sanitary ware, tableware and vitrified clay pipes.

1997

We participate in an international dinnerware top show, Ambiente, in Frankfurt. We’ve participated in every Ambiente show since then.

1995

Claytan Fine China (Tableware) Sdn Bhd is incorporated, specializing in the production of stoneware tableware and art ware.

1991

We start manufacturing sanitary ware in partnership with Caroma for Australian and New Zealand markets.

1990

We start manufacturing tableware under OEM arrangement for Johnson Brothers of the Wedgwood Group.

1983

JPC-lntan is incorporated to produce an advanced range of vitrified clay pipes.

1982

We begin supplying sanitary ware to the United Kingdom market.

We start manufacturing sanitary ware under OEM arrangement for the Japanese market.

1973

Oriental Ceramics Sdn. Bhd. (“OCSB”), the first tableware factory in Malaysia, is set up  to produce English Fine Earthernware to USA.

1968

Significant milestone when we bring in foreign technology to improve our sanitary ware production process by installing the first British-designed tunnel kiln in Malaysia to fire sanitary ware.

1965

Clay Industries Sdn Bhd (“CISB”) is incorporated to strengthen our lead in the vitreous china sanitary ware business.

1958

Mr. Tan Chong Cheng takes over the helm from his late father, and is the Managing Director of the Claytan Group to date.

1952

Claytan develops and produces sanitary ware for the Singapore Improvement Trust and the Housing Trust of Malaya.

1951

We become the first to produce and supply vitrified clay pipes meeting British Standards 65.

1942

The British Army surrenders to the Japanese Imperial Army. During the Japanese Occupation, we turn to farming to look after the workers’ livelihood. Three months later, we were encouraged by the army to go into production of tableware and various types of earthern containers for public use. This marks the beginning of the tableware industry in our country.

1941

The Japanese Imperial Army invades Malaya, marking the beginning of the Second World War in this part of the world.

1935

We extend our production base to Ayer Hitam, Johore where Johore Pipe Company was established to produce vitrified clay pipes for supply to the Public Works Department.

1922

We relocate to Malacca to focus on the market in southern Malaya.

1920

Claytan, a pioneer in the ceramic industry in Malaysia, is established by the now late Mr. Tan Soon Heng in Segambut, Kuala Lumpur.
