5 Questions to Ask When Interviewing Your Service Staff

Your service staff members are your biggest brand managers and the image of your business in many ways depends on them. It is important to read between the lines during interviews and recognise certain qualities in potential staff members.

This question will give you some insights into how much thought they’ve put into this role and how much passion and drive they have for this particular industry. If this role is a step on the path to a bigger goal they will likely be more committed to the job.

This question can reveal their priorities and give you an insight into their values. Their answers to this question can also indicate whether they enjoy working in a team and how ambitious they are.

Describe the last significant conflict you had at work and how you handled it?

Conflict questions are a good way of seeing whether a candidate is a team player and how well he functions as part of a team. Restaurants can be a stressful environment sometimes, and knowing how employees deal with conflict can provide some useful ways to manage them in the future.

How would your last boss or your coworkers describe you?

It’s an opportunity to see how a candidate believes others perceive them and a good moment for the candidate to highlight his positive traits.
